In 2011 Blom&Moors completed the Design Concept for Station Furnishings. One of the items in this vision was the ambition to develop a sheltering system for small railway stations, were travellers can wait for the train. Recently the first objects, based on the concepts of Blom&Moors, were realised and placed by ProRail at several Dutch railway stations. This ‘modular mini station’ combines all the traveller’s needs: shelter, a comfortable bench, lighting, and a loudspeaker. Optional, panels for travel information can be added. All measurements, materials, colours and details are strongly related to the coherent program for station furnishings.

The object is designed as a modular system to fit in in different locations. The flexible combination of an elegant roof, side panels and front panels can be applied in different configurations. The construction has been minimised for a transparent look, so both the environment as the travellers are clearly visible as well. The other side of the illuminated information panels can be used for the application of art for more recognition and strengthening of local character.

In commission of and in cooperation with Bureau Spoorbouwmeester, Blom&Moorsalso investigated the application of the system by means of a number of case studies for small stations.
