During a visit to the Dutch island Schiermonnikoog, a climb to the observation post of the bunker Wassermann cannot be absent. The concrete colossus from the Second World War is drowned deep in the Poemelsdûn, the highest dune of the island. The panoramic view on the top is magnificent: Noordzee, Waddenzee, forests, the salting and dunes stretching out from the base of the dune and are crowned with an impressive sky.

The observation post contributes substantial to the experience of the island. Very special is the meeting of the dynamic nature and the young cultural history. The design is developed in consultation with the client Vereniging Natuurmonumenten and the inhabitants of Schiermonnikoog The standard fence could be removed.

The most striking is a set of elements who give a comment on the view: on a central spot on the bunker a ground plan is placed. This plan is surrounded by three visors. One of the visors is pointed on the north, the other two are pointed on the east- and southwestpoint of the island. The last two are not visible from the observation post. The ground plan can be walked on. Children enjoy to stand on it and solve the points and lines on the plan.

A staircase is placed to reach the top of the bunker. To prevent from falling down and to lean or sit on a low fence is placed.

All elements are executed in galvanized steel. The ground plan and the visors are executed in stainless steel.
