Kraaijvanger Architects in collaboration with Royal Haskoning DHV and Blom&Moors made a design for the transformation of the train station Amsterdam Sloterdijk.

In de design, Kraaijvanger turned the station almost inside out: by moving all the functions of the station to the edges a building appears with the qualities of an urban interior. A big and open square with an impressive roof where daylight can enter the building easily.
The urban interior seamless turns into the outdoor space: On the Orlyplein a pleasant atmosphere arises under the firm overhang of the roof of the station. At the same time, the overhang functions as a new beacon in the urban landscape.

In the urban interior people will be guided , meetings and stays stimulated. Travellers and passers-by can choose from many different seating elements and spacious benches. As well as on the platforms, green islands are placed on the Orlyplein in front op de station. The islands together are a reference to the Dutch polder-landscape. Here, passers-by can enjoy the dynamic around them.
