With the expansion of the village of Houten in a core of 30,000 inhabitants, Houten has, since the 1970s, developed into a genuine monument of humane urban planning. Today, more than thirty years later, the heart of the city has to meet the requirements of 50,000 inhabitants.
The urban design Master plan and the design of the public space by Rein Geurtsen & partners, provides for the realisation of a city centre for the whole of Houten. ‘Het Rond, which is Houten's central square, will become the living room of the city
For the city centre Blom&Moors developed various furnishing elements which enhance the vivid character of the city centre and offer new forms of use to the users. On Het Rond two curved and comfortable wooden benches are situated. A series of spacious but straight benches have been placed in the connection between the station and the square.
There are accessible connections by way of six different bridges, and robust fencing ensures clear separations. All the furnishing elements have been designed exclusively for the Municipality of Houten.
