Based on 15 'pearls' in the public space of Eersel's village core, the Pearls of Eersel is a project of the 15 most striking objects of the village's history that have been made perceptible. This project came about at the request of the Municipality of Eersel who wanted to develop a culture route in which attention would be paid to the cultural history, nature and modern visual arts. The 'pearls' are very special existing or new objects which have been selected for their expressiveness: each object is associated with a specific and meaningful part of the village's history. By using an illustrated map, visitors and residents can wander through the village and stop at every 'pearl' to read a short and exceptional story about the place. Stories about wealth, poverty and yet more richness, about trade and travel to Denmark or about care and love during war and peace. In that way every 'pearl' forms a link between now and then. At the Tourist Information Centre an extensive guide is available which delves into the history of Eersel, but also into the underlying events in Kempen, Brabant, the Netherlands and even in Europe.

The 'pearls' are marked by bronze studs in the paving where a small triangle points in the direction of the object. The Pearls of Eersel are also made of bronze or they have a bronze-coloured coating which makes them easy to find and recognisable. Some 'pearls' were already made of bronze like the bronze staff of the Willibrordus statue. Other 'pearls' like the doorknob of the Maria Chapel, have been replaced with a bronze replica or have been provided with a bronze-coloured coating. For places where very little can still be seen of what ever happened there, new 'pearls' have been designed, like field gates and street signs.

The Pearls of Eersel are an invitation to the inhabitants and visitors of Eersel to take a look around, to be surprised or to bring back memories. Visitors will possibly ask for directions more often, now that Sumatra is also included in the guide. Then show them the way to the best café or walk along with them for a short while.
